It’s one of the most anticipated reunion concerts in years, and even if you weren’t able to score tickets to any of Phish’s three concerts at the Hampton Coliseum in Virginia this weekend, you’ll still be able to hear the show. And no, you won’t have to barter with some guy selling tapes in the parking lot: Phish will offer free next-day downloads of all three of their Hampton shows as luxurious 256kbps MP3s on their livephish.com Website.
“We really wanted to show our gratitude to all the Phish fans for their support and the overwhelming response they’ve had to these shows. It’s going to be an amazing celebration and we only wish everybody could be there,” Trey Anastasio said in a press release. The downloads will only be available for a limited time, so sign up at livephish.com to get updates when the shows are posted. Additionally, Phish will offer FLAC quality recordings of the Hampton shows for $12.95 per night, or fans can drop $23 for a three-disc recording of each concert.
According to the press release, “The band is bringing in a recording truck to capture the concerts and each multi-track recording will be professionally mixed onsite,” as opposed to previous livephish.com offerings which “have been matrix recordings — the soundboard feed combined with audience microphones.”
As we’ve reported earlier, Phish will also headline the Friday and Sunday night shows at Bonnaroo, and the group’s undying fanbase was also responsible for single-handedly crashing that new Live Nation ticketing service. Rock Daily will be in Virginia for this weekend’s run of Phish shows, so keep it here this weekend for our post-show review (To be filed as soon as we finish those parking lot grilled cheeses and veggie burritos).
